DMPs are mandatory for all research projects, but commercial partnerships are noted on page 6 of the RDM policy as a reason not to publish data openly. ‘’Necessary constraints on the availability of data include the protection of personal data; the protection of intellectual property; the protection of commercial interests of project partners; and security concerns’’.  Contractual relationships signed between researchers and commercial partners specifying that the data belongs to the commercial partner, or for other reasons cannot be shared, are a legitimate reason not to publish data.
